2020 Wordplay “An Anagram” Barossa Valley Shiraz
As the 2020 Vintage started, I was sampling vineyards and heard on the car radio about a death of a man in Wuhan of a mysterious respiratory virus. Just another Bird-flu, I thought nothing much will come of it … just like Ebola and Swine Flu. How wrong I was!
However, Vintage is largely spent in a winery bubble with the occasional release to adjoining vineyards. 2020 was warm and once it started it was all systems go as the Barossa Shiraz rapidly ripened. It was only as the dust settled in late March that we realised the world had massively changed. Our job was largely done, if we were to spend the foreseeable future in isolation, we at least had some belters in the Cellar!
Bright cherry red in colour with a lifted cinnamon spice on the nose. Red fruit of wild raspberries embrace the palate with a complexing hint of freshly roasted coffee beans draw to a close as the elemental tannin assemble seamlessly on the finish.
Music: “Catch My Disease” by Ben Lee …… If Shiraz is the cure, I’m happy to be the patient!
Read: “Manufacturing Consent” by Noam Chomsky ….. a contemplative drop that causes you pause, analyze and reflect on the world around you with 2020 vision.
